Vocavio assesses team communication in high-pressure operations. Its product, vCONNECT, analyses audio from training simulations and scores the non-technical skills – teamwork, coordination, communication – that determine whether a team performs safely under pressure.
The training sector it serves has a real measurement gap. In aviation, medical and emergency simulation, instructors assess crew communication by watching and forming a judgement, which does not scale, varies between instructors, and produces nothing you can track across a cohort. Turning it into repeatable measurement is genuinely useful for spotting which teams need work and whether training changed anything.
Two things to hold onto, both about scoring people. The vendor describes vCONNECT as voice biometrics, which makes this special-category biometric data under GDPR and laws like BIPA – consent and retention are the operator’s responsibility. And “objective” scoring of human non-technical skills is a strong claim: the measurement is consistent, which is not the same as correct. Use it to inform instructor judgement, not to replace it, and never as the sole basis for a competency decision about a person.
