Darktrace, founded in 2013, built its Enterprise Immune System around a different idea than signature-based security tools: learning the normal behavioral pattern of every user and device on a network, then flagging deviations from that baseline as potential threats, catching novel attacks that don't match any known signature.
That approach carried the company through an IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 2021 at a $2.05 billion valuation, before private equity firm Thoma Bravo acquired Darktrace for $5.3 billion in an all-cash deal completed in October 2024, taking the company private and off the public markets while it continues operating under its own brand.
Enterprise pricing is quote-based around network scope and deployment size, requiring a sales conversation rather than published self-serve rates. For a security team that wants behavioral threat detection catching novel attacks without a known signature, rather than relying solely on signature-based tools, Darktrace's Enterprise Immune System approach addresses that directly.
