Atlas is a browser-based geographic information system that lets teams build maps and run spatial analysis through natural-language conversation instead of specialized GIS software. Fredrik Moger, Vegard Loewe, Harald Rieber, and Marius Hofgaard founded the company in Oslo, Norway, in 2021, and it raised a $2 million pre-seed round led by climate-focused VC Pale Blue Dot.
Its AI assistant, Navi, lets users describe what they want, such as showing customer locations colored by revenue tier, and Navi builds the corresponding map, analysis, and visualization automatically. The platform includes more than 50 analysis operations ranging from basic buffer and spatial join tools to advanced capabilities like travel time isochrones and hotspot analysis, and shared maps can be viewed via public link without requiring the viewer to have an Atlas account.
Energy developers, urban planners, real estate portfolio managers, and municipalities working with location data are the primary users, alongside general teams that need mapping without GIS specialists on staff. Atlas gives a free account to start, with paid plans scaling for teams; the company reports close to 20,000 sign-ups across more than 140 countries, mostly on the free tier.
