Friends & Fables is a generative tabletop role-playing platform founded in 2023 by William Liu and David Melnychuk in Brooklyn, New York. It started in March 2023 as a Discord bot named Franz acting as an AI Game Master before growing into a full virtual tabletop.
The platform runs an always-available AI Game Master that narrates scenes, voices characters through text-to-speech, and handles DnD-style rules and mechanics for parties of up to six players, removing the scheduling problem of coordinating a human Dungeon Master and multiple players. World-building tools let players and groups create persistent settings and characters that carry across sessions.
Friends & Fables is aimed at tabletop role-playing fans who want DnD-style campaigns without needing to schedule a live group or a human game master. The platform is explicitly in early access beta, with a Starter plan at $19.95/month for four players and 100 monthly credits, Pro at $29.95/month, and Legend at $39.95/month ($33.29/month billed yearly) for six-player campaigns.
