Imbue is an AI research company focused on building agents that can reason and write software reliably. Kanjun Qiu founded the company in San Francisco in 2020 under the name Generally Intelligent, renaming it Imbue to reflect a broader mission of building computing tools aligned with human goals and control.
Imbue's flagship product, Sculptor, gives developers a desktop interface for running multiple coding agents in parallel sandboxes, each isolated so one agent's changes don't collide with another's while a developer reviews and merges the work that's actually useful. Rather than training its own foundation model for end users, Sculptor works with a developer's existing Claude subscription or API key, layering orchestration and sandboxing on top of models Anthropic already trains.
Imbue fits software teams experimenting with agentic coding workflows who want more control over parallel agent runs than a single chat-based coding assistant gives them. Sculptor runs free during its beta period on macOS and Linux, with Windows support through WSL; the underlying model costs run through whatever Claude plan or API key the developer already pays for, and Imbue has raised over $200 million in funding, including from Nvidia, to build out the broader research effort.
