Jimdo is a German website builder that lets small businesses create and run websites and online stores without coding. Matthias Henze, Christian Springub, and Fridtjof Detzner founded the company in 2007 in a farmhouse in northern Germany, growing out of a web design agency the founders ran for local businesses in Cuxhaven while still in school. Jimdo is headquartered in Hamburg with additional offices in Munich and Tokyo, and the founders reacquired full ownership of the company from outside investors in 2024.
Jimdo runs two separate builders: Jimdo Dolphin, an AI-driven builder that asks a business a handful of questions and generates a complete site in about three minutes, and Jimdo Creator, a more traditional template-based editor with deeper manual customization and coding options. Both builders include SEO tools, analytics, and e-commerce functionality, letting a single small-business owner manage a marketing site and an online store from one account without separate software.
Jimdo suits small business owners and solo entrepreneurs who want a working website fast without hiring a developer, rather than agencies needing granular design control. Paid Dolphin plans start around $9 to $11 a month for an ad-free site with a custom domain, with online store plans running higher; a free plan with Jimdo branding and no custom domain is also available.
