The economic layer is what makes it unusual. User wallets and a developer earnings mechanism mean an app built on the platform has a path to covering its own inference costs rather than the developer absorbing them, which is the failure point for most free generative side projects.
Open access brings the usual caveats — rate limits under load, no uptime guarantee, and moderation responsibility sitting with the app developer.
