Overview

PaperBanana generates publication-quality scientific diagrams from a plain text description. A multi-agent pipeline does the work – a Planner lays out the structure, a Stylist applies the visual language, a Critic reviews the result and a Visualizer renders it – across more than twelve diagram categories spanning computer science, biology, chemistry, medicine, business and engineering, in eight styles from journal-ready Academic through Blueprint, Hand-drawn and Isometric.

Putting a Critic in the pipeline is the design decision that matters, and it is rarer than it should be. A generated diagram fails in ways a generated image does not: an arrow pointing the wrong way or a mislabelled layer is not an aesthetic flaw, it is a false claim in a figure that a reviewer will read as the author’s. A review pass before rendering is the only structural answer to that.

Nine models are available including Nano Banana 2 for fast previews, Nano Banana Pro for precision, SeeDream for photorealism, GPT-4o and Midjourney. Every new user gets 20 free credits with no card, and no plan pricing is published beyond that; the company is reachable only through a support address. A Critic agent reduces errors rather than eliminating them, and a wrong diagram in a paper is a citation problem rather than a design one; journal figure requirements are specific about fonts, resolution and colour that a style preset does not know about; and academic convention on disclosing generated figures is still unsettled.
