imgix is an image and video processing service for teams that publish large amounts of visual media. A developer points it at existing storage, and each image or video is resized, compressed, reformatted and delivered from a CDN on request. The site says it processes more than 8 billion images a day and names Unsplash, Skims and Porsche among its customers. It is aimed at e-commerce, media, agencies, automotive and real estate sites.
The AI features are grouped as AI-powered transformations, described as a way to enhance, remove and generate visuals in seconds. Generative fill extends an image to a new aspect ratio, background removal cuts out the subject, and AI backgrounds replaces what is behind it. Alongside these sit smart cropping for images and video, automatic compression, adaptive video streaming and captions in more than 100 languages, with a recent release adding alt text in 52 languages.
Pricing is credit-based. On the US pricing page Starter is $25 a month or $250 a year with 100 credits, 50 GB of media and 100 GB of delivery bandwidth, and Basic is $75 a month with 375 credits. Larger packages are listed at $150 and $500 a month, with custom plans above that. A 30-day trial includes 100 credits and needs no credit card.
