Artera develops multimodal AI tests that combine digitized biopsy images with clinical data to predict how individual cancer patients will respond to different therapies. Andre Esteva and Felix Feng founded the company in 2021 after Esteva's work on medical AI at Salesforce Research, and Artera is based in San Francisco.
The flagship ArteraAI Prostate Test received FDA De Novo authorization as the first AI-powered software cleared to prognosticate long-term outcomes for non-metastatic prostate cancer, and the company has since added ArteraAI Breast, the first FDA-cleared digital pathology risk-stratification tool for early-stage breast cancer. Results return in as little as two days, and the prostate test outperformed standard NCCN risk stratification models in predicting metastasis and survival outcomes in published studies.
Oncologists, pathology labs, and cancer centers use Artera's tests as part of treatment planning rather than as a self-serve software subscription. The tests are reimbursed by Medicare and billed through standard lab and insurance channels, so pricing is not published as a flat subscription rate.
