Cleanup.pictures is an AI photo-editing tool originally built by InitML, a company founded in 2020 by Cyril Diagne, Jonathan Blanchet, and Damien Henry that went through Y Combinator's Winter 2021 batch. Stability AI acquired InitML's Clipdrop product suite (which includes Cleanup.pictures) in February 2023, and Jasper acquired it from Stability AI a year later, in February 2024, folding the Paris-based team into Jasper's multimodal AI efforts while keeping Cleanup.pictures running as a standalone tool.
The tool works through inpainting: a user brushes over an unwanted object, person, text overlay, date stamp, or watermark in a photo, and the AI reconstructs what should plausibly sit behind it, instead of cloning nearby pixels the way older retouching tools do. It runs in the browser with no software install, and real-estate agents, online sellers, and casual users rely on it as a fast way to depersonalize or clean up listing and social photos.
Cleanup.pictures fits anyone needing to remove one or two elements from an existing photo rather than generate new images from scratch. The free tier caps exports at 720px resolution; a Pro subscription at $5 a month (or $36 billed annually, about $3 a month) removes the resolution cap for full-size exports.
