Ezra is a preventive-health company that pairs full-body MRI scans with AI-assisted image analysis to screen for early signs of cancer and other conditions. Emi Gal founded the company in 2018 in New York after losing his mother to melanoma and learning he carried elevated genetic risk for the disease himself; Ezra has since scanned tens of thousands of people across dozens of US locations. In May 2025, Function Health acquired Ezra, folding its imaging technology into Function's broader lab-testing and preventive-health membership.
Instead of a radiologist reviewing a scan alone, Ezra layers three AI systems onto the imaging pipeline: Ezra Flash enhances scan quality, Ezra Assist supports radiologists during review and is FDA-cleared for prostate imaging, and Ezra Reporter translates radiology findings into plain-English summaries for patients. Following the Function acquisition, the companies cut scan time from around an hour to 22 minutes and dropped the price of a full-body MRI from roughly $1,500 to $499.
Ezra targets health-conscious individuals and preventive-care patients who want imaging-based cancer screening outside a referral-only hospital pathway. A standalone full-body MRI runs $499, while ongoing access comes bundled through a Function Health membership priced at $365 per year that also includes lab testing.
