Appsmith is an open-source low-code platform for building internal tools — admin panels, dashboards, CRUD apps — that connect to a company's existing databases and APIs. Abhishek Nayak, Arpit Mohan, and Nikhil Nandagopal founded the company in 2019.
Developers drag prebuilt UI components onto a canvas and wire them to more than 25 databases or any REST API, then add custom logic in JavaScript where the visual tools run out; because the codebase is open source, teams can self-host it and inspect exactly what runs in production. Appsmith has since added AI copilots that generate widgets and workflow logic from natural-language prompts on top of the visual builder.
Appsmith suits engineering and data teams that need to build internal software faster than hand-coding it but want more control than a fully closed no-code tool gives them. The Free tier supports up to 5 users forever; the Business plan runs $15 per user per month (with a 15-day free trial, no credit card required), and Enterprise starts around $2,500 per month for 100 users.
