BMC Helix is an IT service-management (ITSM) and IT-operations-management (ITOM) platform that combines incident, problem, and change management with predictive AI/ML monitoring in one system. BMC Software, the Houston-based company behind it, was founded in 1980, but the Helix product line launched in November 2019 as what BMC billed as the industry's first platform to unify ITSM and ITOM under a single AI-enriched data model; in 2025 Helix was spun off into its own independent company, still based in Houston and now owned by KKR alongside BMC Software.
The platform runs on BMC HelixGPT, an agentic and generative AI engine built directly into service workflows rather than added as a separate module. It clusters related incidents automatically to flag emerging major incidents, correlates events across infrastructure in real time, and exposes a common data model across web, Slack, and chatbot channels so IT and business users work from the same records.
It fits mid-size to large enterprise IT departments running complex, multi-cloud infrastructure that need one system for both service desk and operations monitoring. Pricing is quote-based, with named-user licensing that market data puts in the $180-$320 per agent per month range before enterprise negotiation; BMC does not publish list prices.
