Boords is storyboarding and pre-production software for video teams, built by Tom Judd and James Chambers, co-founders of the London animation studio Animade. What began in 2015 as an internal tool for Animade's own productions grew into a standalone product now used by more than 700,000 creative professionals.
Its AI storyboard generator takes a pasted script and produces frame-by-frame images with matching action descriptions and dialogue, which teams then refine, animate into animatics, and route through Boords' review flow, where clients can comment frame-by-frame and approve a cut without creating an account. The company has stayed independent and self-funded through eleven years of operation, reaching six-figure annual revenue on content marketing and word-of-mouth alone.
Boords suits video agencies, brand marketing teams, and in-house creative departments that run frequent pre-production cycles and need client sign-off without email attachment chains. A free-to-start plan requires no credit card, and paid plans begin around $29 a month, with students, teachers, and non-profits getting 50% off any tier.
