Causa is a causal AI company founded in 2023 by Professor Dan Franks and Dr Jordan Hart, registered as Causa Ltd and based at York Science Park in the UK. The two met as researchers before separately working in industry roles where they said they saw businesses misled by decisions built on standard correlation-based AI and analytics.
Where most predictive AI tools flag patterns and correlations, Causa builds causal models, using Bayesian modelling and causal inference techniques, that estimate what would happen if a business changed a specific lever like price or ad spend, rather than only what has historically moved alongside it. The company delivers this as a cloud-native causal ML platform with API/SDK access, as well as through direct project engagements.
Causa serves commercial leaders and data teams working on pricing, attribution, and forecasting decisions where getting causality wrong is higher-priced. Engagements are project-based, fixed-scope projects of 4+ weeks, workshops, or embedded partnerships of 3-12 months, rather than a published subscription; the company raised a pre-seed round led by Twin Path Ventures in February 2024.
