Copyleaks is a text-authenticity and plagiarism-detection company founded in 2015 by software developers Alon Yamin and Yehonatan Bitton. What started as a plagiarism checker for schools and publishers added AI-content detection in 2023 as large language models entered mainstream writing workflows.
The platform scans submitted text, and now images, against a large index of web and academic sources, flagging matched or paraphrased passages while separately scoring the likelihood that content was AI-generated across languages. Detection results run on a credit-based system, where one credit covers roughly 250 words or one image scan.
Educational institutions, publishers, and businesses needing content-authenticity checks make up the core market, alongside individual writers checking their own work. A free tier covers around 10 pages a month, with Personal and Pro subscriptions starting near $9.99 a month and custom Enterprise and Education plans for larger organizations.
