Dosu is an AI tool that connects to a GitHub or GitLab repository to triage incoming issues, answer contributor questions, and keep documentation synced with the codebase. Devin Stein, a software engineer and open-source maintainer, founded the San Francisco company in 2023.
Once installed, Dosu monitors repository activity and drafts responses to issues and questions using the project's own code and docs as context, and it flags or updates documentation pages when related code changes. A newer "Dosu MCP Server" extends the same knowledge base to coding agents like Claude, Cursor, and Gemini so they answer with current, repo-specific context instead of stale training data.
Dosu suits open-source maintainers buried in issue backlogs and engineering teams that want documentation to stay accurate without a dedicated technical writer. The Community edition is free for up to 500 requests a month on public repositories, paid plans for private repos and teams start around $20 a month, and Enterprise pricing is custom.
