Malted AI builds small language models tuned to narrow, domain-specific tasks for financial services rather than relying on general-purpose large language models. Iain Mackie, Carlos Gammell, and Federico Rossetto founded the company in 2023 in Edinburgh, Scotland, building on concepts that helped the team win the 2022 Amazon Alexa Prize.
The platform listens across calls, chats, emails, and other channels in real time, analyzing all of a financial institution's interactions rather than a sample. Instead of one large model attempting thousands of tasks moderately well, Malted's small language models are trained to do a narrow task close to perfectly, which the company positions as delivering 10-100x cost savings over general-purpose LLMs for those specific jobs.
Malted AI fits financial services and other regulated enterprises that need cost-controlled, high-accuracy AI on sensitive interaction data. The company has raised roughly 7 million British pounds across pre-seed and seed rounds led by Hoxton Ventures and Creator Fund; pricing is not published, and engagement starts with a booked demo.
