Old photo restoration is where it earns its reputation. Family photographs from before digital cameras are usually the only copy that exists, already degraded, and often the only surviving image of someone – which makes even a partial recovery worth far more than the technical achievement suggests.
Understand what enhancement actually does, particularly to faces. The model does not recover detail that was lost; it generates plausible detail consistent with what remains. On a blurred face that means the result is the model’s best guess at a face, not the face that was photographed – close enough to feel like a restoration, and different enough to matter. Lovely for a family album, and never acceptable as identification or evidence.
