AI Optics designs a portable retinal imaging system for point-of-care eye screening. Founded in 2020 in New York by CEO Luke Moretti and COO Andrew DiGiore, the company grew out of Moretti's time at NYU Medical School, where he saw patients lose vision because accessible eye screening wasn't available outside specialist offices.
Its flagship product, the Sentinel Camera, is a handheld, rechargeable fundus camera built from proprietary optics that captures color and infrared retinal images without requiring pupil dilation. Onboard AI screens the images for diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma directly on the device, and the exam takes under two minutes for a medical assistant to complete during a routine visit. The FDA granted the Sentinel Camera 510(k) clearance in January 2025.
AI Optics targets primary care offices, retail health clinics, and other point-of-care settings that want to screen for retinal disease without referring every patient to an ophthalmologist.
