Avanty is a Chrome extension that puts an AI assistant inside Metabase, helping analysts generate, edit and understand SQL queries without leaving the tool. It is currently in early access.
Building into one BI tool rather than being another BI tool is the right call. Analysts do not want a new place to write queries; they want help where their dashboards, saved questions and database connections already live. An extension inherits all of that context for free, and asks nobody to migrate anything – which is the difference between a tool that gets adopted and one that gets evaluated and forgotten.
Explaining existing queries is quietly the most valuable of the three functions, since analysts inherit far more SQL than they write and the author is rarely still around. Two caveats: early access means expect change, and generated SQL that runs is not the same as SQL that is correct – a subtly wrong join produces a confident number nobody questions.
