ChatMapper is a visual editor for branching dialogue, used for game narrative, serious games and learning-and-development scenarios. Teams lay out a conversation on a canvas, simulate it with real Lua conditions, validate every path with deterministic checks for broken links, dead ends and undefined variables, and export to Unity (native XML), Unreal (JSON), Godot, Yarn Spinner, SCORM and xAPI, LearnBrite, an HTML player and canonical JSON. ChatMapper Cloud is the browser version, and ChatMapper Desktop is a separate Windows product that is free for personal, non-commercial work; both are part of Hyperspace.
The AI is an optional layer with a person in the loop. The AI collaborator, on the Creator plan and above, proposes drafts, branch extensions, rewrites and scoring logic as reviewable edits that the author approves, and generative voice and video work with the user’s own provider keys. Supported providers include OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure, Bedrock and local Ollama models, and provider usage is billed directly by the provider with no ChatMapper markup. The core workflow works without AI, and the deterministic validation suits training scenarios where every path must be checked. The site cites 104,000+ creators and customers such as Kaplan, USC and THQ, which are vendor claims that may reflect the older desktop tool.
The Free plan costs $0 and includes the visual canvas, Lua simulation, deterministic validation, core import and export formats and commercial use, with one editor and, per the site, three projects of 300 nodes each. Creator is $19 a month billed annually ($24 month to month) with full production exports, the AI collaborator, generative voice and video, localisation and project history. Team is $79 a month billed annually ($99 monthly) with three editors, roles, presence and conflict protection, full history and restore, and shared AI provider configuration. Enterprise and OEM is by quote with SSO, private or on-premise deployment, white-label use and an SLA. Desktop licences are priced separately.
