FiftyOne is an open-source computer vision dataset and model evaluation toolkit built by Voxel51, founded in 2018 at the University of Michigan by Professor Jason Corso and his then-PhD student Brian Moore. The company turned their research into developer tooling aimed at a problem generic data tools ignore: understanding what is actually inside large image and video datasets, not only labeling them.
The open-source FiftyOne library lets machine learning and computer vision engineers load, visualize, and query datasets directly in Python, surfacing labeling errors, model failure cases, and dataset gaps through an interactive visual interface rather than raw file browsing. Voxel51 layers a paid enterprise product, FiftyOne Teams, on top of the open-source core, adding collaboration, cloud-scale compute, and access controls for organizations running the tool across larger teams.
FiftyOne is built for computer vision and machine learning engineers curating training data and debugging model performance, from individual researchers to enterprise ML teams. The core library is free and open source under an active GitHub project; FiftyOne Teams plans are quoted directly by Voxel51 based on seats and compute usage, with published tiers covering Team, Growth, and Custom levels.
