Gemini, Google's flagship consumer chatbot since 2023, replaced the earlier Bard product and was built multimodal from the start, understanding images, video, and audio natively within the same model rather than bolting on separate systems for each media type after the fact.
That foundation shows in its ecosystem integration: Gemini works directly inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and other Google Workspace apps for users on the right plan, and a Deep Research feature can autonomously browse and synthesize information across numerous sources into a full report. Gems let a user configure a custom version of the assistant for a recurring task, similar in spirit to custom GPTs elsewhere in this category.
A free tier covers standard use, and paid plans start around $20 a month for a longer context window, higher usage limits, and deeper Workspace integration. For anyone already living inside Google's ecosystem, Gmail, Docs, Android, Gemini's native ties to those products give it a directness competitors without that same ecosystem can't fully replicate.
