Power BI Copilot, added by Microsoft in 2023, brings natural-language querying and automated report generation to Power BI, a business intelligence platform already deployed across a huge number of organizations through Microsoft's existing enterprise licensing rather than requiring a new platform adoption.
That existing installed base is the practical advantage: a company already using Power BI gets Copilot's natural-language features layered directly onto reports and datasets already built, rather than migrating to a new BI tool to access AI-assisted analysis. Deep integration with Microsoft 365 lets generated insights flow into Excel, Teams, and other already-familiar Microsoft apps.
There's no free tier for Copilot specifically; pricing starts around $14 a month on top of Power BI licensing. For an organization already running Power BI within its Microsoft 365 environment, Copilot's native integration into tools and reports already in daily use is a more direct path to AI-assisted analytics than adopting a separate platform.
