Lara Translate is an AI translation system built by Translated, a Rome-based language-services company founded in 1999 by Isabelle Andrieu and Marco Trombetti. Lara itself launched in 2024, built on top of Translated's earlier ModernMT engine, aiming for translation quality closer to a professional human translator than typical machine translation.
Lara uses a reasoning approach that can explain its word choices and adapt to surrounding context and user-supplied glossaries rather than translating each sentence in isolation, and its Lara Think reasoning model, released alongside a November 2025 update, scored roughly 40 percent higher in human evaluation than Lara's baseline model. The system now covers around 200 languages and integrates into Translated's enterprise TranslationOS platform for larger deployments.

A free tier covers up to 5,000 characters and 4 document pages a day; Pro costs €9 a month flat, Team costs €29 per user per month, and overage is billed automatically past plan limits.
