DaVinci Resolve is a video post-production suite whose color-correction roots trace back to da Vinci Systems, founded in 1984; Blackmagic Design, founded in 2001 by Grant Petty in Australia, acquired da Vinci Systems in 2009 and rebuilt the software into a full editing, color, visual effects, and audio platform released under the DaVinci Resolve name. Today it stands as one of the most-used tools in professional film and broadcast post-production.
The suite bundles editing (the Cut and Edit pages), Fusion visual effects and motion graphics, Fairlight audio post-production, and the color grading tools DaVinci built its name on into one application rather than separate programs, and layers AI features like Magic Mask for object isolation, speech-to-text transcription, text-based editing, and voice isolation on top. Blackmagic Cloud adds remote, multi-user collaboration for teams editing the same project from different locations.
