Nimbalyst is an open-source visual editor and workspace built around AI coding agents like Claude Code and OpenAI Codex. It was founded in 2024 by Karl Wirth, Greg Hinkle, and Jordan Bentley, who previously built Evergage, a real-time personalization platform that reached the Gartner Magic Quadrant before Salesforce acquired it in 2020.
Rather than working with Claude Code or Codex purely through a terminal, Nimbalyst wraps them in a Monaco-based code editor alongside visual tools for markdown docs, Mermaid and Excalidraw diagrams, data models, and mockups, plus a session manager that tracks what an agent changed and lets a developer approve or reject it before it lands. Users can describe a diagram or data model in plain language and have the agent generate it directly on the canvas, then edit it visually instead of only through a chat prompt.
Nimbalyst suits individual developers and product teams already using Claude Code or Codex who want visibility into what their AI agent is doing beyond a scrolling terminal log, rather than teams not yet using agentic coding tools at all. The Individual plan is free with no credit card required and includes the full editor; a Teams plan adding real-time collaboration is in development, with pricing to be announced for a waitlist.
