Its current positioning, authentic learning in an AI world, reflects the problem now dominating the field: distinguishing student work from generated work.
That is a genuinely harder problem than plagiarism matching, and worth stating honestly. Plagiarism detection compares against a corpus and can point at a source; AI-writing detection infers from statistical properties, produces both false positives and false negatives, and cannot show its evidence the same way. Any institution relying on it should treat a flag as grounds for a conversation, never as proof.
