H&R Block is a US tax preparation company with online do-it-yourself filing software and human tax professionals. Its AI Tax Assist lets a filer ask tax questions in plain language and get real-time answers that clarify terms, explain forms and deductions, and reflect the latest tax code. According to news coverage of its launch, the tool runs on Azure OpenAI and draws on H&R Block’s Tax Institute, a group of CPAs, tax attorneys and enrolled agents with about 70 years of tax expertise.
A filer who wants a person can add live tax professional help; the company says its filing plans include free access to AI Tax Assist and live support. The company’s online filing page also lists a DIY option with tax pro review and full-service preparation by a tax pro.
The online filing page lists Free at $0, Deluxe at $65, Premium at $105 and Self-Employed at $130, with state filing at $49 per state on paid plans, as read on the company’s site in October 2026 during the extension period. Prices change each tax season, so confirm them on the H&R Block site.
