Bonitasoft builds Bonita, an open-source business-process-automation platform used to design, run, and monitor workflows that span multiple systems inside an organization. The French company was founded in 2009 by Miguel Valdes Faura and Charles Souillard and is headquartered in Grenoble, France, with a U.S. office opened to bring what the company called BPM democratization to the American market.
Bonita separates process design from execution, letting developers build BPMN-compliant workflows visually or through code. Its AI layer adds a BPMN generator that turns plain-language process descriptions into compliant diagrams, plus AI connectors that plug models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral, and others directly into a process step to classify documents, extract structured data, or generate text. A separate process-mining layer analyzes archived execution data to flag inefficiencies before they recur.
It fits enterprise IT and operations teams automating multi-system workflows, such as onboarding, claims, or approvals, that want an open-source engine rather than a proprietary black box. The Community edition is free and open-source indefinitely, while Enterprise editions (Access, Scale tiers) are priced per named user on request, with third-party estimates putting large enterprise contracts in the tens of thousands of dollars annually.
