Caret is a system-wide autocomplete tool for macOS built by Caret Ops Inc. and launched in 2026. It runs in the background across the operating system rather than inside a single app, aiming at the gap between per-app AI writing tools and one completion layer that follows a user everywhere they type.
The tool reads a user's screen to build context and, when the user presses Tab, completes the sentence or thought in progress 'in your voice,' according to the company. Caret works across more than 70 applications, including Messages, Mail, Slack, Notion, Google Docs, the Microsoft Office suite, Xcode, and Terminal, storing what it learns locally on the Mac rather than in the cloud.
Caret is aimed at Mac users who write across a spread of different apps in a day and want one completion layer instead of separate AI features per app. As a version-1 product it ships free, with no paid tier published yet and a requirement of macOS 26 or later.
